Subject: Antoine Cason

You don't seem to be as high on Antoine Cason as other draft websites seem to be, including nfldraftscout.com. I haven't had a chance to see him play during his college career, so I can't comment on him either way. What do you see out of him?

Lou: Cason could have ended up as a first round pick in the 2007 Draft, but he decided to go back to Arizona. He had a good season, often being avoided as much as possible by opposing offenses, which in many ways limited him from posting big stats.

As far as how he stacks up with the competition, I consider him to be one in a large group of similarly talented corners. Mike Jenkins (USF), Terrell Thomas (USC), and DeJuan Tribble (Boston College) are all strong candidates out of the senior class, and there are juniors like Aqib Talib (Kansas), Reggie Smith (Oklahoma), and Malcolm Jenkins (Ohio State) who may enter early.

Cason has good size for the position (6'0" 190 pounds) and solid upper body strength. He doesn't have that elite speed like some of the other top senior prospect do, or even some "second-level" guys like Indiana CB Tracy Porter, and there are some questions about his closing speed, particularly in coverage of smaller, fast receivers.

Cason has proven about everything he can on the field at Arizona, and it may come down to how many junior prospects come out and how Cason can compete in the off-season workouts. Can he run a sub 4.5 40, or will he end up at 4.6? As minuscule as such a difference might seem, it can have a major impact on how a team ranks him in the CB listings.

A team like New Orleans might benefit from someone like Cason since he has so much in-game experience from spending four years playing for the University of Arizona. But he could also slip out of the first round, and a team like Miami could provide a double-boost to its defense by landing LSU DT Glenn Dorsey in the first round and then snagging Cason in the top of round two. Will he really fall that far? We shall see.

Hey lou josh here again i have more regards to the cowboys draft.

#1 Jerry Jones has be known to do 1 of 2 things trade around and stock pile draft picks or go after teh most electifing guy with the the their pick. granted the past few years old tuna has had some say in what they draft (defensive players) now i'm not comlpining he has built a really good defense for wade to work with. but if i had a choice in what the boys do i'd draft desean jackson solely for his return ablity. (like you have said though a phsycal receiver here would be great) and trade teh other pick for a couple later rounds or a first round next year.

#2 back to the desean jackson pick did we not draft isaah stanback for that last year i was really exicted about that pick cus the kid has size and speed. but you don't hear much about him.

#3 in your most recent mock you have the boys pickin up a ot with there second pick. me personally think a db would be a better pick there unless you think a dencent db could be picked up later or in free agnecy. i'm much like the tuna i like defense it wins games. Or if Felix Jones is there pick him up him and marion the barbaion would be great thing to see if your a cowboys fan.

#4 last but not least you have the best site on the internet i check it every day read every thing you have to say about football let me just say i'm very exticed that you are going to make this a full time job that means more write ups i hope and hpefully a second round to your mocks. again thanks for your time and i hope you the best of luck with you new job

Lou: Thanks for visiting the site, Josh. It's been great fun to work on this as a full-time venture, and the feedback has been wonderful.

It will be interesting to see what the Cowboys do at the wide receiver position. You look at their moves in recent years, and the play has been to go for veteran wideouts, be it Joey Galloway or Keyshawn Johnson or Terry Glenn or Terrell Owens. In many ways it would go against recent history for them to take a WR; the last time they had two first round picks (2004) they decided against going wideout in favor of DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears.

You raise a very good point about Isaiah Stanback, the former QB, WR, and track star from the University of Washington. He was a fourth round pick, but already he has shown vulnerability to injury, with shin splints and a separated shoulder in limited action for the Cowboys. So, to that end, you could argue that Jackson is a legit option and that Stanback still needs to prove that he can stay healthy.

I would think that 6'4" Oklahoma State WR Adarius Bowman would be a better fit for the Cowboys than Jackson (particularly if he can be groomed to take the T.O. spot eventually), but there is something so electrifying about Jackson that he might catch the eye of Jerry Jones and end up going to Dallas. Remember, Jackson is the X-Factor in this draft, the Ted Ginn, Jr. of this year. Expect the unexpected with him when it comes to what team lands him -- and where.

With the Cowboys and the offensive tackle spot, much of it will depend on if Flozell Adams leaves via free agency and how the team feels about the options it has both in later rounds and on its roster. Leonard Davis is someone who could play tackle, but after under-performing at the spot for Arizona he made the Pro Bowl this year as a guard for Dallas. It seems like you'd let it ride with that kind of success and look elsewhere for a tackle. But Dallas will have some evaluating to do on that.

And, yes, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Felix Jones going to Dallas. At it is, they might take F. Jones if he's on the board when their *first* pick in the first round comes up. Dallas doesn't always do what you think they will at RB. Remember, they had the chance to draft Steven Jackson in 2004 when he fell to them (and, yes, I predicted he'd fall that far, despite widespread criticism, probably the harshest I've ever faced since I launched this site.) But Bill Parcells was calling the shots then, and with a new staff in place, going with a logical (not to mention regional) pick in Felix Jones would make sense.
