Subject: Niners Pick

You’re one of the few who seem to have a better insight as to what Coach Nolan will do in the draft…I’ve seen so many who show Ginn or Jarrett as our first pick. That’s just not happening…yes, Nolan will draft a WR (possibly two), but that’ll be in later rounds. The first couple of picks will be impact front seven guys…likely a DL like Okoye or Carriker with first pick and probably a LB (in NFL) such as Anthony Spencer in 2nd round. He’s made a solid commitment to a 3-4 defense, and hired Greg Manusky from the Chargers to run it for him. Despite four of five outside FA signings on defense, it’ll still be a defensive focus in the draft, as he makes every effort to install an effective 3-4.

Lou: The problem for the 49ers is the same one that plagues the Vikings: beyond Calvin Johnson, there really isn't a wide receiver who warrants a top fifteen pick.

San Francisco helped itself by signing Ashley Lelie, but drafting a young wideout would be a wise addition on day one. It just doesn't seem to fit for the #11 spot, particularly if someone like Amobi Okoye falls to them at that position.

Subject: Cowboys team needs by back-up!

Do you still see WR as our 1st round needs? I see OT/OG, DT, CB, DE, C, WR, S in that order.

Lou: It's hard to pinpoint an exact order that a team will take in the draft, particularly with so many variables involved and an uncertainty of who will be on the board until the exact moment that the team goes on the clock.

The signing of Leonard Davis would seem to make Dallas less likely to go OG/OT in round one. Youth at wide receiver remains a need; unlike how it was in the Bill Parcells era, Wade Phillips will be looking beyond just the upcoming season, which makes developing a WR prospect seem like a feasible possibility to me. At the same time, Dallas really needs to add another pass rusher to compliment DeMarcus Ware, in one capacity or another.

I think your target spots made sense: the Cowboys could use depth in the secondary, another body or two for the o-line, and depth for the defensive line (particularly at DE.)
