The schedule for me has been busy as of late. Very busy. It was worth burning most of the weekend last weekend to see Alabama play in person (plus to enjoy the weekend experience in Starkville), but playing catch-up has been tough. Lots of obligations pulling me in many different directions.

Tomorrow night I'll be in Memphis to see my cousin Patrick Pickney playing for my alma mater (Father Ryan High School) in the state semifinals against Memphis University School. MUS is 11-0 and has a quarterback named Barry Brunetti who is verbally committed to playing at West Virginia, and rumor has it that Brunetti has been promised a chance to start at QB as a freshman there.

Not to provide a downer for Minnesota Vikings fans, but things are not looking good for the team's long-term future in the Minneapolis market. Is it time to get ready for the Los Angeles Vikings? Don't be surprised if it happens.

Less than twelve months since giving him a two-year contract extension, the Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Dick Jauron. It's understandable with the Bills being 3-6 and sputtering, but it's somewhat strange that he got the extension in the first place considering that the Bills went 7-9 in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Whatever the case, Jauron is gone. Keep in mind that Buffalo's last playoff appearance came after the 1999 season in the famous "Music City Miracle" loss to the Titans in January 2000. It has been a tough decade for Bills fans.

I'm hoping this weekend to revamp the Draft King 2010 NFL Mock, including write-ups below each of the picks. The quarterback class looks to be strong (even if Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen doesn't leave school early), further showing what a smart move it was for Mark Sanchez to leave USC with one year of eligibility remaining (and a diploma) for the NFL despite the whining of Pete Carroll. After what happened to Sam Bradford this year, or Jahvid Best for that manner, I hope that criticism for players leaving the college game with eligibility remaining to turn pro is muted this off-season.

I have a couple of mailbag entries waiting for me on the other side of Memphis; I have been negligent in addressing them on here in a timely fashion. At the same time, don't mistake that for me not paying attention. Quarterback isn't the only position with a narrow difference between top prospects; there are a number of defensive ends turning heads in NFL circles, and it will be interesting to see when/if any top DE/OLB prospects manage to break out from the pack.

Something to consider for the weekend: Boise State could end the season unbeaten and potentially not end up in a BCS bowl game, due to the BCS only having to take one team from a non-automatic bid team conference, and that team likely to be Texas Christian University. Would a BCS bowl pick a two-loss Iowa team over Boise State? That is a huge swing in money, possibly $10 million plus, for the WAC.

One thing also to mention is that the Rose Bowl is a separate game than the BCS National Championship game (as it is called), though the BCS Title game will also take place at the Rose Bowl stadium itself. This isn't the first year for this (it began in the 2006 season) but I've been surprised to hear how many college football fans are unaware of this reality.
